You Do Grieve When You Lose a Job - Introvert Whisperer
Introvert Whisperer / You Do Grieve When You Lose a Job - Introvert Whisperer You Do Grieve When You Lose a Job Iâll put it to you straight. Getting laid off or fired hurts. A lot. It hurts even if you didnât like the job or the boss. The reason it hurts is because you made an emotional investment in your job. Its a big part of how you spend your life and even with bad jobs, we bring a piece of us to it every day. It has many of the same characteristics of a relationship. Thatâs why itâs hard to leave a job, just like a relationship. But when leaving your job isnât your choice, you are facing loss and rejection. Those are two of lifeâs biggest fears. Only now itâs not a fear any longer; its reality and a painful reality you have to figure out how to get through. There are several things you have to realize about the impact getting laid off has on you. This is a very real loss. Itâs right up there with the death of a loved one. Many people think maybe you âshouldnâtâ feel bad but that is totally wrong thinking. No one but you can judge the depth of hurt and loss but you. We experience many losses in life with the biggest being death but there is loss of financial security, loss of your home, health, safety and beloved pets. I read a study one time and the loss of a job was about 3rd from the top with death of a loved one being the first and loss of freedom through incarceration being second. Since most people never experience being thrown in jail, it makes losing a job right up there as one of the worst forms of loss. You may grieve. With loss comes grief and it sticks to you like a rogue piece of bubble gum. You just canât seem to shake it and shows up at very strange times. Just know youâre normal. Donât let anyone smother you with platitudes of âItâs only a jobâ or âYouâll get over it when you get another jobâ or âTime heals all woundsâ. Thatâs horse manure. Those sayings will only cause you to hide rather than process your hurt. I have found the older version of âstages of griefâ to be wrong and unhelpful. To help you process any loss, I suggest looking into books and work done by Russell Friedman and griefrecoverymethod.com They acknowledge loss, all kinds of loss and take you through a process to help through their books and methods. In addition to what I suggested, if you can, spend a bit of time taking care of yourself. Many people jump into a frenzy of job searching work and I can understand the reaction (especially if you have financial concerns) but if you can- do nice things for you. Donât overindulge in abusiveness (drugs or alcohol) but take long walks, hit a hot tub or get a massage. Donât tough this out alone. Many people do but itâs not a healthy way to move through the process. I had a woman write me about the impact of losing her job. She told me about how she reacted after getting a letter of âposition eliminationâ. She didnât see it coming and was devastated. She outlined how from that point forward she has never allowed herself to put personal items in her office. She never made her office a home. It was like she symbolically has kept herself ready to leave her job. Often our outside mirrors our inside and I think her story recaps some of what you should consider. We do have to be ready to change jobs for whatever life throws our way. Go to top Do you know what your next career step is? Many people donât. Key Differences Between Cost Accounting And Financial Accounting
Key Differences Between Cost Accounting And Financial Accounting Known as the language of business, accounting is popular in business and commerce circles. It deals with recording of business transactions and auditing them as per the regulatory requirements. They are various kinds of accounting from management/cost, financial, social, project based, governmental, forensic to environmental accounting. Of the lot, Management or Cost accounting as it is also called and financial accounting are very important. Both these techniques weigh in on decision making aspects in business and yet, they are very different in their purpose and applications. While financial accounting is a summary of expenses and shows historical data, cost accounting deals with detailed accounting of all the expenses. For instance, if there are âxâ number of products, financial accounting deals with the representation of the costs associated with them such as material cost, expenses (both direct and indirect) and profit details. Cost accounting on the other hand goes into each productâs material, labour and overhead cost while also going into the net and sale profit for each product. Read on to learn the basic differences between these two systems of accounting. Definition Cost Accounting helps in detailing and thus controlling the cost. Variable cost, overheads, fixed cost and capital cost are studied in detail here. Financial Accounting helps in recording transactions. This section of accounting involves the preparation of financial statements and these provide the overall financial position of the company to the stakeholders. Audience Cost Accounting is used internally in most cases for preparing reports to be submitted to the management and influences business decisions. Financial Accounting is aimed at providing an idea as to the exact financial position of the company to the share holders, creditors, rating agencies and so on. Report Format Cost Accounting is usually used for internal purposes and thus can follow any format suited to the management. Financial Accounting has strict guidelines and formats that need to be adhered to as they are issued to the public. They usually follow the IFRS guidelines or the governing bodyâs regulatory requirements. Content of the Report and Timing Restrictions Cost Accounting reports usually carry both financial and operational data/information. The frequency and timing of these reports are dependent on the management. Estimations and actual transactions are taken into account. Financial Accounting reports have extensive details on transactions recorded using the accounting system. They are usually prepared during the end of a period â" say during the end of a fiscal year, end of a quarter or even bi-annually. Only actual transactions are used here. Time Consideration Cost Accounting deals with time periods in the past as well as in the future. We can make use of this form of accounting for projection of costs and so on. Financial Accounting deals with a reporting time period that has been completed. The process/cycle Cost Accounting Cycle â" Calculation of raw material cost, labour cost, direct material cost, overhead cost in the mentioned order. Addition of all these costs along with profit margin is then done and the calculation of estimated sale price is done finally. Controlling the cost of raw materials, labour cost and other overhead is explored at length here. Financial Accounting Cycle- Going through ledge entries and journals to prepare the trial balance. This is then followed by the final accounts and balance sheet.

How To Improve Your Writing Skills
How To Improve Your Writing Skills Writing is one of the more interesting subjects to teach, it may not be the most difficult, but it is definitely different than teaching math or science. William G. Tierney and Stefani R. Relles, two professors, guest wrote an article in the Washington Post about teaching writing. Their main point is that teachers spend too much time addressing bad writing and not nearly enough time helping students improve. They see writing as a product and not a process, and that is the root of the problem. Together, they have created a program that seeks to effectively teach writing to college-bound students who have struggled with the subject. Most of the students they help have never written the prototypical, formal five-page paper. They have very little experience developing a core idea or argument to articulate beyond two or three pages. Through this course, Tierney and Relles have identified four ways to teach students how to write better. Define set, understandable goals: There are too many writingtests. These tests only give students vague results, like you scored in the 85th percentile. Instead, teachers need to pick a set goal, like helping students become college-ready writers. Teachers need to break down what good writing is into compartments and subjects, and show how one begins to craft a solid essay. Teach students how to revise: Teachers need to stop just writing comments at the end of essays, as ways to improve their next essay. Most of the time, students dont even remember them. Teachers need to spend more time with students during the writing process, helping them improve an existing paper. Teach students how to form thoughts: Writing is not thinking. Writing is putting thoughts into words. Students are often taught how to think critically and analytically about themes and problems, which is the first step in writing. However, they are not taught the second step nearly enough, which is finding the words for your thoughts. Require more/longer writing: Budget cuts have increased class sizes, and larger classes means one thing for English teachers: more reading. So, many cut down on the essays and writing pieces they assign simply because they dont want to read more. Longer papers force students to stretch out their writing, instead of cramming it all into a one- or two-hour block. This forces students to spend multiple days with their assignments, which creates more revisions and ultimately better writing. Tierney and Relles say that making these suggestions could change the entire way in which writing is taught, something that might be too controversial to implement. But, the problems bad writing causes are simply unavoidable. Many college freshmen are placed in remedial writing courses, which are lower-level, college classes designed to help them catch up with other students. These classes are often referred to as the gateway to dropping out because the graduation rate for these students is very poor at only 17 percent. Tierney and Relles argue that these teachers need to place a stronger emphasis on teaching the craft in these courses, instead of telling the students they are not good writers. Even President Obama is targeting these classes, saying they could help produce more college graduates.
